Destination Rapid City was founded in July 2008 resulting from findings through two important task force efforts in Rapid City.  The first being the City Center Revitalization Task Force chaired by Councilperson Gunderson-Olson and the second being the Destination Development, Inc. consultancy.

Destination Rapid City has partnered with the City of Rapid City, the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce, the Rapid City Downtown Association, the Black Hills Area Community Foundation, and the Rapid City Convention and Visitors Bureau to strengthen downtown as a critical element in the greater community fabric.  With these cooperatives and the involvement of community businesses we look forward to leading downtown Rapid City's redevelopment and revitalization, improving streetscapes and facades, enhancing the business mix of downtown, providing clean and safe programs and creating a gathering place for Rapid City residents and visitors.
